Evan Evans, priest and poet, was born in 1795 in Trefriw, Caernarfonshire. Better known by his bardic name, Ieuan Glan Geirionydd, he became a teacher and won the chair at the Wrexham National Eisteddfod in 1820 before being ordained and receiving the curacies of Christelton, Ince and Rhyl consecutively.
